Particularities of the Forex Trading System

The term FOREX is an acronym for Foreign Exchange, and denotes the international exchange market for buying and selling currencies. The history of the FOREX trading system goes back to the 1970s, when free exchange rates and floating currencies were introduced, meaning that the price of one currency against the others is strictly determined by supply and demand.

The FOREX market has the largest liquidity a market could have, and it is impossible to manipulate, due to its lack of external controls. Both marginal traders and long-term traders can be found in this market, making it an interesting environment for a wide range of investors.

In the FOREX trading system, transactions take place all over the world by means of telecommunications, meaning there is no central FOREX exchange to handle all trading. Trading starts on Monday at 00:00 GMT and ends on Friday at 10:00 pm GMT. FOREX traders operate literally all over the world, buying and selling major currencies.

Margin trading is very common in the FOREX trading system, meaning that investors obtain a credit line and speculate on currency prices. By doing so they increase their potential for huge gains, although the same potential exists for losses. Marginal trading specifically refers to trading with borrowed capital. The fact that big positions in the market can be established without large amounts of actual money makes this market very appealing, as well as easy to enter into.

FOREX trading can seem particularly difficult for beginners, especially in their first months on the job. It is a stressful job, because the perspective of losing huge amounts of money that you do not possess can be overwhelming. Then there’s the actual time spent in front of the screen watching dozens of price fluctuations, in order to decide what your next move is going to be.

There are certain aspects that are specific to the FOREX trading system, and that must be familiar to all traders involved in these operations. This market is somewhat different from the other equity markets. For one, when it comes to buying and selling currency, it is important to note that all trades represent the purchase of a certain currency and the sale of another, simultaneously, because currencies are priced in pairs. This means that a successful operation is when the currency that was bought increased in value by comparison to the one that was sold.

Another feature of the FOREX trading system is the way in which the currencies are quoted, which every FOREX trader must be familiar with as well. Out of the two currencies in a pair, the first one is considered the base currency, while the second is referred to as the counter-currency or quote currency.

All these, and a lot more, are thoroughly presented and explained in a FOREX course. It is very important for traders on this market to start out with the advantage of having learned from the success of other traders. The authors of any FOREX course should be traders with considerable experience in this market. The most important skill that a FOREX course can teach a newcomer to this job is how to avoid beginner mistakes, which can be extremely costly.

Achieving Maximum Success In Forex Trading

Many people who enter the forex field are unaware of how crucial a proper forex trading training is. Relying o intuition is only enough to get you by minimally. If you do not know how to analyze the market properly and manipulate it, you will not be able to succeed in forex trading. Just like any other endeavor in life, you need to learn the trade before you begin practicing it. Trying to trade in the forex system without learning the system first, would be like trying to play any game without knowing the rules and objective beforehand. It just doesn’t make sense.

There are a few elements in forex learning that help the forex trader succeed in the market. The first element is discussing the forex market in depth. There are three elementary concepts a forex trader must know when devising a proper forex trading system for his personal trading needs. He needs to learn money management, risk and execution. These three elements are essential to trading properly. If applied correctly, a trader may use his system to minimize his risk in the market and maximize his profit. He must first devise a system though, based on the three fundamentals.

In order to do so, he needs to learn about the fundamentals from an experienced forex trader or reliable forex source. The system is an equation and if mastered can bring in lots of money to the trader. Managing money refers to knowing what a trader may invest and what he may not. The biggest financial risk is investing more than your account can cover. A trader should not be conducting deals with amounts that can put his account into a negative balance. Professional traders advise to begin with small investments and stop loss order strategies to ensure that the trader does not get wiped out after his or her first trade.

The forex learning classes all talk about this concept and explain how to manage your money properly.

The second element studied is market levels and their analysis. Since the market is very unpredictable at times and values can change suddenly and instantly, the professionals teach traders about price behavior and discipline in trading. They discuss the fact that buying a currency at a low value and then selling it when its value increases is not the only concept essential in trading. There is a lot more involved. The third element discussed in forex trading classes or courses is detachment.

It is very important for traders to know how to set their emotions aside when trading in the forex market. To always follow your mind and head and not let your emotions mislead you. Basically the psychology of forex trading and the correct way to approach it. Not to behave impulsively in trading because it can lead to catastrophic disasters. To always think before you jump. The fourth and last concept is method.

Learning Some Good Forex Trading Stragegies

If you’re a potential investment player who’d like to make it big in the business and financial world, then you go for forex trading. The FOREX, also known as the foreign exchange market is one of the largest financial markets in the world with and estimate of $1.5 trillion turn-overs every day. Here are a few strategies on how to make it big in the forex market.

Strategy One: Know your market. The best way to get advantage, earn profit and minimize losses is to familiarize yourself with the market and how the whole system works. In the forex market, the players are usually commercial banks, central banks and firms involved in foreign trade, investment funds, broker companies and other private individuals with large capital. With the speed and high liquidity of asset, most companies engage in this business than in any other trading venture. Transactions are done in a jiffy; there are no membership fees and there is always the allure and promise of big, big profit.

Trading is done in pairs. The most commonly traded currencies are usually the US Dollar, Japanese Yen, Euro, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar and the Swiss Franc. The more commonly traded currency pairs are the US Dollar and the Japanese Yen, the Euro and the US Dollar, the Swiss Franc and the US Dollar. In Forex trading, everything is speculative and virtual. There is no actual product being sold or bought. The activity mostly consists of computed entries made on the value of one currency against another. Say for example, you can buy Euros with US Dollar, hoping that the Euro will increase it value. Once its value rises, you can sell the Euro again, thus earning you profit.

Strategy Two: Learn the language. There are three concepts you need to know in the currency market. Pips refer to the increase of one hundredth of a percent of the value of the currency pair you are trading. Usually each pip has a value of $10 or $1. Volume is the quantity or amount of money being traded at one particular time in the market. Buying is the acquisition of a particular currency. A trader buys with the hopes that the price of the currency will increase. Selling is putting a currency up for grabs in the market because of a potential or possibility of a decrease in its value. There are also two techniques of analysis usually used in this business – the fundamental and the technical analysis. Technical analysis is usually used by small and medium players. Here, the primary point of analysis revolves on the price.

Fundamental analysis, on the other hand, is used by bigger companies and players with higher capital as it involves looking at the other factors affecting the value of a particular currency. In this type of analysis, the player also looks at the situation of the country, particularly issues like political stability, inflation rate, unemployment rate, and tax policies as these are seen to have an effect on the currency’s value.

Strategy Three: Develop a sound trading strategy. Your trading strategy would depend on what kind of trader you are. The basic thing with developing a trading strategy is to identify what kind of forex trader you are. A good trading strategy should lessen, if not, eliminate losses.

Plan also the size of your transactions. It is better to conduct many different trades than one huge transaction. Not only does it develop discipline, but it also lessens any possible loss as only a fraction of the capital is affected. Part of a trading strategy is developing the values of discipline and proper money management.

Strategy Four: Practice. Try paper trading, a great way to practice your skills, see how the market works and get acquainted with the software and tools being used. There are online brokers who allow free paper trades, which allows practice and experience before doing it with real money.

Strategy Five: Choose the right forex dealer. Make sure that they are regulated by the law. Take not of dealers with investment schemes that give out too-good-to-be-true-just-false-hopes promises. Look at investment offers before getting started.

Forex trading may seem easy and manageable. But the emotional stress, the demands and challenges of being a forex trader requires more than just the knowledge of the market. It requires more than just a keen and sensible head for business. It’s all about a gameplan, a strategy.

Forex Trading System – Becoming A Global Phenomenon

Forex trading is finding an increasing number of takers all over the world these days. It is a truly global phenomenon that is happening in the largest market in the whole world. There are many other sectors that are involved with trading. Typically these sectors include individuals, corporations, governments and banks. You need to have at least a basic understanding of the working of the forex trading system and these sectors before you deal with trading on your own. The entire trading system though is simple enough to explain. It is to put it in a nutshell, trading one currency for another currency. Although this is the actual case, the entire forex trading system operates in a much more complex manner.

One of the reasons for the complexity of the system is because of the size of the market. The forex market is truly massive. Added to this is the fact that this huge market is also highly fluid. The complexity also increases manifold since there are hundreds of currencies that are being traded. This apart the values of all these currencies that are being traded constantly keep changing, adding to all the confusion in learning the system. It is because of all these complexities that when it comes to forex trading, most of the times, it is the large corporations that are successful and not individuals.

Forex trading is truly unique in it s own way. This is so because literally noone has access to all the prices of currencies and other information at the same time, unlike in the case of the stock market. There are in fact various levels of access to information that is usually given to forex firms and forex traders. Although the entire system is quite complicated it is here to stay for a long time, at least until the highly unlikely scenario of the whole world adopting a single currency. It is for this reason that experienced forex traders always advise people to set up a forex trading system through a trial and error method and then stick to it.

Another important thing that you need to know about forex trading is that you will get knowledge about the system only when you have gained enough practice. This is the reason why savvy forex traders always recommend beginners to begin trading with smaller accounts before graduating to bigger accounts, over a period of time.

Forex Trading Tools: Common Forex Trading Terms

The foreign exchange market, or Forex market, is an around-the-clock cash market where the currencies of nations are bought and sold. Forex trading is always done in currency pairs. For example, you buy Euros, paying with U.S. Dollars, or you sell Canadian Dollars for Japanese Yen. The value of your Forex investment increases or decreases because of changes in the currency exchange rate or Forex rate. These changes can occur at any time, and often result from economic and political events. The purpose of this article is to discuss commonly used Forex trading terms.

Bid and Ask Price: Like the stock market, the Forex market has a bid and ask price. The bid is the price you can sell at. The ask is the price you can buy at.

Bid/Ask Spread: The bid/ask spread or simply spread is the distance between the bid and ask prices. This spread is usually expressed in pips. For example, if the the bid price is 1.2362 and the ask price is 1.2365, the spread between the bid and ask prices is 3 pips wide (1.2365 – 1.2362 = 3 pips).

Lots: 1 Lot is equal to 100,000 units of the base. Likewise, 2 Lots are equal to 200,000 units of the base, 3 Lots are equal to 300,000 units of the base, and so on.

Margin: Margin is referred to as the collateral needed to facilitate a Forex deal. Usually, this is a very small portion of the entire deal, say 1% or 1:100. Please note that margin is a double-edged sword. Without the proper use of risk management tools (for example, the stop-loss option), you can experience substantial losses as well as gains.

Long Position/Short Position: A long position is a market position that appreciates in value if the market price increases. Conversely, a short position is a market position that appreciates in value if the market price decreases. (In every open Forex position, you are long in one currency and short in the other.)

Stop-Loss Order: A stop-loss order is a market order to close a Forex position if or when losses reach a pre-set threshold. According to Bruce Kovner: Whenever I enter a position, I have a predetermined stop. That is the only way I can sleep. I know where I am getting out before I get in. The position size on a trade is determined by the stop, and the stop is determined on a technical basis. Ed Seykota adds: The elements of good trading are: (1) cutting losses, (2) cutting losses, and (3) cutting losses. If you can follow these three rules, you may have a chance.

Take-Profit Order: A take-profit order is a market order to close a Forex position if or when profits reach a pre-set threshold.

Fundamental Analysis: A fundamental analysis uses economic and political factors, such as unemployment rates, interest rates, or inflation, as a means of predicting currency movements. Fundamental analysis is concerned with the reasons or causes for currency movements. Many Forex traders who rely on fundamental analysis plan their trading strategies around a number of key U.S. Government economic indicators. Some of these indicators are the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Foreign Exchange Rates, the Composite Index of Leading Indicators, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Retail Sales, Housing Starts, the Employment Cost Index, and Consumer Confidence.

Technical Analysis: A technical analysis uses historical data as a means of predicting currency movements. The technical analyst believes that history repeats itself over and over again. Technical analysis is not concerned with the reasons for currency movements (for example, interest rates or inflation). Instead, it believes that historical currency movements are a clear indication of future ones.

Trading System: According to Howard Abell, The trading system gives the trader the ability to control his or her emotional states rather than allowing them to control him. A system is a disciplined method for organizing dynamic, ever-changing market phenomena.

Trading Forex on margin carries a high level of risk, and may not be suitable for all investors. The high degree of leverage can work against you as well as for you. Before deciding to invest in foreign exchange you should carefully consider your investment objectives, level of experience, and risk appetite.
